How to pick your Pushchair
Pram, stroller, pushchair or new wheels – whatever you call them, its probably one of the most important items you will buy for your new baby; but with so much choice how do you decide from the many different brands, styles and options on offer?
Your pushchair will become a big factor in your daily routine so it’s vital that you choose the right one that fits in with your lifestyle, suits your budget and meets you and your baby’s needs.
Mamas and Papas
There are a few important factors to consider before investing. Here are our top tips which should help you to narrow down your choice…
Do you want it forward or backward facing?
Choosing a pushchair with a reversible seat will enable you to choose whether to have your baby facing you while they’re still young or looking forward as they get older. It’s also very important to note that new-borns need to lie down so also make sure the pushchair’s seat features a lie back function.
Do you need adjustable handles?
If there’s going to be more that one person using the pushchair, adjustable handles will make it a lot more comfortable when switching over, especially if you’re considerably shorter or taller.
Will you be using it in the car?
You’ll want to ensure that your pushchair fits in your car if you take day trips or travel a lot. A travel-system compatible model which also includes a car seat and a carry cot would work best for you as these easily and safely click on to car seats.
Will you be taking it on public transport?
If you regularly travel by train, tram or bus, you’ll benefit from a pushchair that’s compact, light and easy to fold away in small or cramped spaces.
Will you take it on long walks?
You might want to decide whether you want swivel or fixed wheels if you’re intending to go on long walks with your pushchair. While swivel wheels are great for maneuverability in smaller places, such as shopping in town, fixed wheels work better if you’re walking down long, straight roads.
Will you need it to carry shopping?
Additional shopping storage can be really beneficial if you pop to the supermarket or shops with your pushchair. Look out for a sturdy shopping basket underneath the seat to safely store all your purchases.
Do you have more than one child?
If you have a toddler and a newborn, you will need a combination of a carry cot and a stroller. Just make sure it fits in the boot of your car.
Three or four wheels?
Three-wheel pushchairs are small and light and work well across different types of terrains from city centres, sandy beaches to bumpy country roads. They’re also very sturdy and useful for carrying essential baggage.
